If you are reading this blog then by default you want to wake up early in the morning. But, wait a minute, before we go further to the methods of waking up early, we have to clear one extremely important information.
What does ‘early’ mean?
Different people will have different answers to this question. Some will say 5 A.M. others will say 4 A.M. and so on. But we have to figure out what early means to you.
Stuck??
Don’t worry I have covered this for you. Sharing an equation, from my personal experience, which will help you discover your definition of ‘early’:
Early Morning Time= your present waking time – 1.5hrs
So, if you are waking up at 7AM then your target time will be 5:30am and like that. Now, we are in position to move to the main part of this blog.
Practical Ways to Wake up Early
Unplug at least 2 hours before Bedtime
This step alone if followed with discipline has the power to correct your sleeping routine.
Switch-off all your electronic gadgets 2hrs before your sleeping time. When you watch your gadgets at night, it forces your brain to become active and completely disrupts the release of melatonin (the hormones that put you sleep).
This disruption is boosted 10 times by radiation that is coming from the gadgets even if you have a blue-light filter, you are secured only to some extent but not completely.
So, disconnect from the online world 2hrs before sleep instead you can spend that time either with your family or reading good stuff.
Have a Solid Reason to Wake-up Early
This is one of the most underestimated way. But at the same time, it is one of the most powerful technique. You need to have a solid reason, as to why you want to wake up early. Though this should be obvious but most people don’t have one.
Whether you want to get some personal time or want to do exercise, you should have a clear reason. Then repeat that reason in your mind, just as you are about to go to sleep. Your mind is subject to your command and will obey your orders.
Just think about the times when you woke up early and you will find that every time you had a solid reason to wake up. Just apply the same principle every night and you will unlock the hidden technique to wake up early.
Stop Your Late Night Snacking
The title must have given you the idea, unlike us, our digestive system has its clock setting.
Our metabolism goes to sleep, or you can say it slows down as the sun sets. Therefore, its best to have your dinner while the last ray of sun is still around.
Now, you might be thinking “this is not possible every day for me due to my lifestyle,
Well, I know that
But there is something that you must do if you want to wake up early. Eat your dinner 2hrs before you sleep. Your last meal should have a gap of at least 2hrs from your sleep time.
When we eat late night (after 8pm) the food forces our digestive system to get to work, whose working in turn destroys our sleep hormones. Many studies around the world have also proved that sleeping with full stomach can prove to be cancerous.
So, I highly recommend that you stop your night snatching from tonight only.
Meditate Before You Go to Sleep
Many people on hearing the word ‘meditation’ think of Sages sitting cross-legged on rocks and they believe either meditation is very complex or old people thing.
But in today’s day and age when, relationship and work-related stress is growing faster than ever. Meditation is proving to be the best medicine. So, just start it by concentrating on your breadth while sitting in cross-legged position & you will feel the calmness in your mind.
Meditation has a very soothing and relaxing effect on sleep, just try to meditate for 15 min, before going to sleep and feel the difference.
Get a Deep and Sound Sleep
It is a well said quote-
“6 hours of deep undisturbed sleep is better than 10 hours of disturbed sleep.”
You need to get at least 6 hours of undisturbed deep and continuous sleep. Your sleep should be such, that even the alarm clock can’t wake you up (that doesn’t mean that you ignore the sound of alarm clock which you set to wake up) ?, but I think you got the point.
If you have a disturbed sleep that’s not a good sign. I have discussed a technique to get good sleep in my blog on boosting immunity
Summary is, early to bed early to rise. So, wake up early (set the time such that you get 6-8hrs of sleep and you are able to wake up at your target time).
Bonus tips
Still want more? Here are some bonus tips for you:
Keep one of the curtain open in that dark bedroom ( which you love to sleep in)
This allows sunlight to enter in your room, not only it will act as a natural alarm clock but sunlight also has the power to make laziness disappear and help you to wake up early with ease.
Don’t use mobile phone as alarm clock
Well the problem with mobile phones is that their radiations disturb our body clock, if kept near to body while sleeping. Better keep the mobile out of your bedroom while sleeping. Better you use a traditional alarm clock
Keep a Bowl of Water Besides You
As soon as you wake up early morning, instead of snoozing the alarm clock, pick up that bowl and splash some water on your face.
Though It may look weird or childish to some but once you did there is no chance that you can go to sleep again. Try it! (No need to prove its effectiveness).
